Sock Monkeys have been around since 1951, according to "Everything's Coming Up Sock Monkeys!", a definitive book on this folk art toy. (Hmmmm... I've been around since 1952... coincidence???) Sock monkeys are truly Americana, they have had a place in many homes and have been much-loved "friends" to many children. Sock Monkeys remind us of happier, less complicated days. They bring a smile to many, perhaps a chuckle, and maybe a memory of a loved one.
Sock Monkeys for the Cure are designed to honor breast cancer survivors, or to remember those who have lost the battle. I began creating them as a fundraiser for my Breast Cancer 3Day Walk in January 2008. You can find them on Ebay under "sock monkey for the cure", when they are listed for sale. Proceeds from the sale of these sock monkeys are put toward my annual Breast Cancer 3Day Walk, this year in Seattle!
Each Sock Monkey is named for someone for whom I walk - their personalities are captured in the outfits and attitude!
Please enjoy these images of sock monkeys who have found new homes all around North America! If you are interested in ordering a special personalized one for yourself or your BFF, please contact me at wendy[at]sockmonkeysforthecure.com - thanks!
Just added a picture of the happy couple - Bride and Groom sock monkeys that I created for my daughter and son-in-law in honor of their marriage!
